A.F. 632, the stability of the world state is maintained through a melange of biological engineering, infant conditioning & hypnopaedia, scientific caste system and heavy use of narcotics known as soma. There is no sadness. No anger. No deep complex sorrows. No family. No mother. No father. No connection. No monogamy. Everybody is happy. Everybody belongs to everybody else. Privacy is a no-no. “Community, Identity, Stability”, the World State’s slogan. Every aspect of life has been conditioned around the level of social utility. A soft form of totalitarianism with boundless consumption shaping conformity. A Brave New World.
Who controls the present, controls the past: who controls the past, controls the present. There are no records; reality control they call it (or doublethink). There is no mass consumption for the capitalist is society’s public enemy number 1 (a plague if you will). Everything is censored because most things are ideologically offensive. Every fact is pure fantasy. 2+2=5. Only one language; words cut to the bone so the range of consciousness is smaller — so people cannot think anymore. How can you think of emancipation if there is no word for it? No privacy. They could be watching you at any second. No thoughts (you don’t want to commit thought crime do you?). Children denounce their parents to the Ministry of Love. Continuous war — how else can you eat up resources? “The consciousness of being at war, and therefore in danger, makes the handing-over of all power to a small caste seem the natural, unavoidable condition of survival”. No eroticism. No orgasms. Big Brother is watching you.
